Nicholas Hytner, Director of the National Theatre, directs Shakespeare's great 1601 tragedy, which opens in London prior to a UK tour. Rory Kinnear plays Hamlet. He has previously appeared at the National in Burnt by the Sun, The Revenger's Tragedy, Phillistines and The Man of Mode, for which he won an Oliver Award. He is joined by Clare Higgins as Gertrude, whose celebrated roles at the National include All's Well That Ends Well, Oedipus, Major Barbara and Vincent in Brixton ( Oliver Award for Best Actress).
